My son Daniel Alberts's encounter with some black boys when school let out at Hosmer Elementary School.
I am not sure if this event took place in Daniel's 2nd or 3rd year at Hosmer Elementary School in Detroit, Michigan.
As I pulled my car up to the gate of Hosmer Elementary school yard where I picked my son, Daniel up every day after school. I arrived just in time as three or four black boys surrounded him and had him pinned up against the fence that surrounded the school yard. One of the boys had his arm pulled back and ready to take a swing at Daniel's eye when I yelled at them to let him go. They took off.
Daniel said they were angry because he had befriended a little black girl in his class and they did not want him to talk or play with her. He said they warned him not to play or even to talk to her again.
Today, Daniel does not remember the out come of this event.
This event and the penning issue of bussing in the Detroit Schools were big factors in our decision to leave Detroit.
