My boyfriend and I had gone to Kensington Park fishing and picnicing as we did most weekends.
Before going home we would stop at Checker Bar-B-Q on Livernois, south of 8 mile road.

That Sunday we pulled into Checker about 6:00 pm and the cook who knew us came out the back door and told us to hurry home.
As we looked down Livernois toward downtown we saw smoke and people looting the stores on the Avenue of Fashion.

Our course there was a curfew so my boyfriend and I couldn't see each other as late as we usually did.
I worked at an Insurance Agency on Woodward across from Palmer Park as a claim agent. One of our insured's reported an auto claim on his Oldsmobile. It had gotten rolled over by a tank that was brought in with the National Guard.

I lived on Greeley @ Lantz and remember it was really hot weather so the windows were open at night. Sometime in the wee hours someone who was being chased by the police had climbed up a tree in the alley and the police were shooting. My dad woke us and told us to get down on the floor.

That's all I can say happened to me during that terrible time.
